About

My name is Jennifer, and I’d like to welcome you to the blog! I am originally from the UK, but for the past five years or so, I have been in and out of America as an international student.

In 2011 I spent my second year of my undergraduate degree at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA, and I fell in love with the city of Boston. Since then, I’ve come back to the area twice: first as a seasonal worker in the summer of 2013, and most recently to earn my master’s degree, which I am doing right now as a student of Writing and Publishing at Emerson College.

During the day, I work as an assistant in Emerson College’s Office of Graduate Admission. This has been a great opportunity advise students about their applications to college, and especially help international students through what can be a confusing process.

One of the most difficult things I have found about studying abroad has been the lack of a single, central resource with tips and tricks for making the process of applying for a visa and arranging travel plans as painless as possible. That’s where the Survival Guide comes in! The aim of this site is to make your study abroad experience as smooth as it can be, with guides to help you through every stage.

Is there something you’re desperate to know that you can’t find on the site? Let me know! I’m always happy to hear from other international students, and who knows—it might be the next topic on the blog!
